Bhu: Earth & Existence

Dotayu Galleries presented a superlative-ridden exhibition entitled 'Bhu' at Graydon, in New Farm, Brisbane, in April 2009. This featured some beautiful recent works of Dotayu artists Yoga and Sanatan Saraswati, thematically complemented with some ceramic works by Northern Rivers artist Suvira McDonald.

Bhu is a Sanskrit word which means both 'earth' and 'existence'. To view some photos of this exhibition, go to the gallery page.

Gallery Changes

Yoga has been represented by Art Galleries Schubert (Schubert Contemporary Gallery) over a number of years. However, after many years of service to the arts, Win Schubert decided that it was time to close the doors to her gallery. Anthea Polson, who worked for Win for a lot of those years, opened up a new, light-filled gallery very close by in Mariners Cove. Yoga now has some of her best works available there (visit Anthea Polson Art).

Sanatan has been exhibiting some of his works at a new gallery in Toowoomba, Tosari. This large and excellent space is run by artist Diane Elsden and her daughter (visit Tosari Galleries).

Awards and Prizes

Both Yoga and Sanatan have entered works in a few competitions this year. Both have had works displayed in the Border Art Prize at Gold Coast Art Gallery. Both have also been shortlisted for the Warwick Art Prize, viewable most of October and November at Warwick Art Gallery.
